Workers demolish Halsted building

JERSEY CITY, N.J., May 25, 2018 – Workers have demolished the former Halsted Corporation Building as PPG commences excavation of elevated levels of hexavalent chromium underneath the foundation.

PPG purchased the building at the corner of Halladay Street and Carteret Avenue in 2016 to obtain access for the excavation.

In addition, PPG will excavate chromium-impacted soil and debris from Halladay Street between Carteret Avenue and Forrest Street.

The former Halsted property is one of several locations adjacent to the Garfield Avenue sites identified in the 2009 judicial consent order that PPG is investigating and cleaning up.
